Primary Girls Football 2022-23

Year 5/6 Girls – Overview

All Manchester Schools are invited to take part in the annual Year 5/6 Girls’ Football Leagues. Entries are invited from the end of the previous school year, with information and league details formalised and sent out in September.  The leagues then commence in September/October every academic year.  Multiple small sided, short matches are played at central venues on set dates with fixture schedule pre-arranged prior to each date.

If you would like to take part or require any further details, please contact Simon Jones.

The sessions take place at six local 6 secondary schools providing central venues based on locality. Fixtures are played one night per month in September, October, November and March.

There are 2 distinctly different types of participation and when entering schools may select which is most appropriate:

EXCEL:- League system which is competitive, results are recorded, creating league tables which are published.  For 2022/23 teams are entered into one of the 3 Excel leagues. After the fourth week of matches in Mar, the top placed teams go forward to the Manchester Finals day.

INSPIRE:- This format is designed to encourage participation at a lower level of performance, There are no league tables or results published, however, results are kept for monitoring purposes only.  Inspire teams also attend at central venues, although the focus is on enjoyment and learning not the result. Students in the Inspire section may be less competent or confident in the sport.

Young Leaders from each of the host sites officiate the matches. Our thanks go to the dedicated PE staff at each school venue for their time and expertise in preparing the leaders and managing the league nights.
