Our pledge to close the Gender Gap in Movement, Sport and Physical Activity

TeamMCR is proud to join Greater Manchester and Liverpool City Region in committing to close the gender gap in movement, sport, and physical activity.

Our Vision

At TeamMCR, we believe every girl and woman deserves the opportunity to participate, compete, and lead in sport.

In alignment with the Brighton plus Helsinki Declaration on Women and Sport, we pledge to advance gender equality, inclusion, and empowerment through the power of physical activity and football.

Our Pledge

  1. Champion Equal Access
We will ensure girls have the same opportunities as boys to engage in football and sport — from grassroots to leadership levels.
  1. Empower Through Education and Partnership
We use sport as a platform to build confidence, leadership, and lifelong engagement among girls and young women.
  1. Celebrate and Elevate Female Role Models
We promote visibility and recognition for women and girls in every area of sport — as players, coaches, officials, leaders, and advocates.
  1. Create Safe, Inclusive Environments
We commit to providing inclusive, supportive, and equitable spaces where all participants can thrive.
  1. Be Accountable and Transparent
We will measure, report, and share our progress annually to drive continuous improvement and sustained impact.

As a proud delivery partner of the England Hockey, RFU, Lancashire Cricket Foundation, the Barclays FA Girls’ Football School Partnership and MCRActive, TeamMCR is driving forward the national ambition that every girl has equal access to football in school

Through our Barclays FA Girls’ Football School Partnerships work, we:

  • Support schools to embed girls’ football in the PE curriculum
  • Provide training and professional development for teachers.
  • Create community club links and player pathways beyond school.
  • Host festivals, leagues, and competitions to inspire participation.
  • Offer leadership and volunteering pathways for young women.

This partnership brings the Brighton plus Helsinki Declaration to life — ensuring real, local impact across Greater Manchester.

Extending Our Commitment Beyond Football

TeamMCR’s commitment to equality spans across all sports.
We are actively:

  • Building female leadership pathways in coaching, officiating, and sport management.
  • Expanding multi-sport participation for girls across Manchester.
  • Providing mentoring, volunteering, and work experience opportunities for young women.
  • Partnering with organisations that share our vision for an inclusive, equitable sporting culture

How We Measure Our Impact

We track and report progress through:

  • Participation data in girls’ and women’s sport.
  • Growth in female representation within leadership and coaching.
  • Engagement across schools through the Barclays FA partnership.
  • Community feedback and case studies celebrating success.

Join Our Movement

TeamMCR invites schools, clubs, partners, and businesses to join us in building a fairer, more inclusive future for women and girls in sport.

Together, we can make sure that every girl — no matter her background — has the chance to play, lead, and succeed.
