Further to our previous TeamMCR Primary School Membership email, I am writing again to schools we have not yet heard back from. Following today’s national announcement on PE and School Sport transition funding, it is now important that we receive your membership confirmation as soon as possible. Just a reminder, it is an eligible spend of your PE & Sport Premium funding that you will need to report against next year as per grant conditions.
Yesterday’s announcement confirms the move from the current Primary PE and Sport Premium model towards a new national PE and School Sport Partnerships Network from early 2027. It also confirms welcome additional transition investment for 2026/27, increasing funding from £100 million to £150 million, with schools receiving a one-off payment in the autumn.
This is positive news for schools and local partners such as TeamMCR. It reflects the concerns raised about the need for continuity, clarity and no gap in provision. TeamMCR has been working hard in the background to advocate for Manchester schools, lobby for additional money, and protect the local PE, school sport and physical activity infrastructure children rely on.
Over the next few months, we want to work closely with partner schools to understand your priorities, champion local need and help shape a Manchester-wide approach that works for children, staff and school communities.
As outlined in our previous membership email, TeamMCR membership is a practical and strategic investment for your school. It gives you access to competitions, festivals, leagues, inclusive events, staff CPD, subject leader support, enrichment opportunities and links with community clubs and city partners. Crucially, it also helps schools demonstrate a strong wider offer through Ofsted personal development and wellbeing, through our CPD offer impacting curriculum and teaching. It also responds confidently to the emerging national enrichment framework and aligns with the direction of the new National Curriculum. At a time when schools are balancing increasing expectations with limited capacity, Team MCR membership offers excellent value for money, reduces workload and provides high-quality opportunities that strengthen pupil wellbeing, inclusion, participation, leadership and staff professional development throughout the year.
We now urgently need schools to sign up so we can plan confidently and avoid delays to the year ahead. Your confirmation directly affects our ability to organise leagues, competitions, CPD, venues and staffing, and to maintain strong local provision while the new national system is being established.
If your school has not yet replied or completed the membership form, please do this today. Without early confirmation, it becomes much harder for us to plan the programme schools rely on and to ensure Manchester schools have a strong collective voice as the new system develops.
The future is exciting. By working together, we can build a stronger, more joined-up PE, school sport, physical activity and enrichment offer across Manchester, shaped around local need and focused on giving children the best possible opportunities to be active, healthy and happy.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to working with you in 2026/27.
