What is PALs? – (Physical Activity Leaders) This PALs training targets the “60 active minute” expectation for all children by having sports leaders from your school, promoting and delivering physical activity sessions. They can deliver these sessions throughout breakfast clubs, breaktimes, lunchtimes, and after school clubs. It also targets leadership and transition outcomes by working with the sports leaders on what it takes (characteristics) to be a good sports leader/ Role model and how to best impact their schools with physical activities.
Who is PALs Aimed at? – The PALs Training is aimed at working with a group of Year 5 & 6 students in primary schools to help develop their leadership skills, knowledge of physical activity and how to deliver sessions.
Which Schools Can Access PALs? – All schools can have access to the PALs resources (training booklet & session planning sheets) and deliver the training themselves at school.
Enhanced Member School Benefit – If you are an enhanced member school, you will have the benefit of this PALs training being delivered at your school with a 2-hour theory & practical based session. These students will be trained by a TeamMCR Member on the fundamentals of being a sports leader and the practical sessions they will be delivering in their own schools. Also, our enhanced schools will have access to the PALs activity games booklet, which is full of different session ideas of physical activity games to be used for their sessions.
Secondary Leadership TeamMCR opportunities
The TeamMCR Programme includes an extensive Competition & Events Calendar, offering a wide range of opportunities for students to lead and support in the delivery, young leaders are an integral part of the majority of the events delivered by TeamMCR.
Many of our Primary School events are hosted by Secondary Schools and delivered by Young Leaders from the host school, supported by school and TeamMCR staff. There are also numerous opportunities for students to take on leadership roles at events held at external venues, such as SportCity & Belle Vue Performance Centre.
Additional training, either generic leadership or sport specific is delivered by TeamMCR staff members and/or in partnership with a variety of NGB’s.
Secondary Volunteering TeamMCR opportunities
Our partnership work with local organisations and NGB’s often allows us to pass on opportunities to volunteer at events taking place in Manchester.
