Primary PE and Sport Premium for the 2025–2026 academic year
The Department for Education (DfE) has confirmed the continuation of the Primary PE and Sport Premium for the 2025–2026 academic year. This funding is designed to help schools make additional and sustainable improvements to their physical education, sport, and physical activity (PESSPA) provision.
To support schools in planning and reporting their use of the premium, a new reporting template was released on Monday 6th October 2025. This template is intended to be a live working document, allowing schools to update it throughout the year to reflect:
- Spending decisions
- Progress against planned actions
- The impact of funding on pupils and provision
All spending must meet the DfE’s conditions of grant, which require that the premium be used to deliver lasting improvements to PESSPA provision. The conditions of grant document can be accessed
I have also attached the tracking your spend document that was released to support with your return at the end of the year.
Planning for Sustainable Impact
Before allocating funding for the 2025–2026 academic year, schools are encouraged to:
- Review their use of the PE and Sport Premium in 2024–2025, identifying what worked well and where improvements are needed.
- Use this reflection to inform strategic priorities for the current year, ensuring that funding decisions lead to long-term benefits for pupils and staff.
The completed template will also support schools in submitting their digital return at the end of the academic year, detailing how the funding was used and the impact it had.
