Physical Education (PE) Head of Department Termly Training and Network

The PE Head of Department Termly Training & Network is a face-to-face CPD programme designed to support Physical Education  Heads of Department/Faculty or a nominated representative in leading high‑quality Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity in secondary settings.

This runs three times per year (one per term) and is free for all member schools.

Each term, the training agenda is bespoke and needs‑led, shaped by current priorities, national guidance and the professional needs of PE leaders. Sessions combine high‑quality training with opportunities to share good practice, reflect and network with colleagues from across the area.

While the programme covers all aspects of the PE HoD role, Physical Education is prioritised, with dedicated time for wider School Sport and Physical Activity leadership.

Session structure

  • 1.00–3.00pm – Physical Education leadership, curriculum and practice
  • 3.00–4.00pm – School Sport and Physical Activity

Content is topical and cyclical, responding to the time of year, inspection frameworks and statutory responsibilities. Every session includes an essential Safe Practice in PE focus to support safe, effective and compliant provision.

Additional features

  • Expert input and visiting speakers, where appropriate
  • Face‑to‑face delivery to maximise professional discussion and collaboration
  • Lunch provided by the host school
  • Rotating host schools, supporting partnership working and shared learning across the network

This programme supports PE leaders to stay informed, confident and connected, strengthening PE, sport and physical activity provision across schools.
